Inspired by a post about being a foreigner in China, The Debatable Land writes about being a foreigner in US and in DC and New York in particular. I was in NYC last weekend, and have to say it fits my impression.
And in one respect New York is America writ small: it is a self-contained unit, large enough and sufficiently confident in itself and its culture as to be able to absorb or, if it chooses, ignore any outside influence.
Perhaps because the buildings are taller, there seems to be more of a press of humanity. Even on the weekend.
